Post-marketing Surveillance

Post-marketing surveillance is the systematic monitoring of a medical product after it enters routine use to identify, assess, and manage safety concerns that may not appear in preapproval studies. In statistics, researchers combine spontaneous reports, electronic health records, registries, and other real-world data to measure adverse-event patterns and compare outcomes across exposed and unexposed populations. Methods such as signal detection, incidence estimation, and disproportionality analysis help distinguish potential safety signals from expected background events while accounting for incomplete reporting and confounding. These analyses support regulatory decisions, label updates, risk-management strategies, and continued evaluation of a product’s benefits and risks in diverse patient populations.

2025

Disease surveillance is the systematic collection, analysis, and interpretation of health data essential to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health practice. This process integrates data dissemination to entities responsible for preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability. Surveillance systems provide crucial information for action, helping public health authorities make informed decisions to manage and prevent outbreaks, ensure public safety, optimize...

Immune Surveillance by NK Cells and Phagocytes

2026

Immune surveillance is an integral part of the innate immune system, involving the continuous monitoring of peripheral tissues to detect and respond to pathogens, infected cells, or cancerous cells. This surveillance is conducted primarily by natural killer (NK) cells and phagocytes, which employ distinct but complementary mechanisms to identify and eliminate threats. Natural Killer Cells: The Fast Responders NK cells are large granular lymphocytes found in the blood and lymphatic system. These...

The direct rapid immunohistochemical test (DRIT) offers a World Organization for Animal Health and World Health Organization (OIE/WHO) recognized alternative to the direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) test for rabies diagnosis. This test allows for field-based applications that can be performed in approximately 1 h upon brain impressions using light microscopy.
