Energy-releasing Steps of Glycolysis

Dans la seconde moitié de la glycolyse,les deux molécules de glycéraldéhyde 3-phosphate G3Psont oxydées par la réaction catalysée par l'enzymeglycéraldéhyde phosphate déshydrogénaseet un groupe phosphate est attaché au sucre instable,formant du 1,3-bisphosphoglycérate. 
Il en résulte deux électrons à haute énergie et deux protonssont relâchés et ramassés par le transporteur NAD+,formant deux NADH et des ions hydrogène. 
La phosphoglycérate kinase transfère ensuiteun groupe phosphate de chaque 1,3-bisphosphoglycérateà l'ADP, créant ainsi deux moléculesd'ATP et de 3-phosphoglycérate. 
Ensuite, l'enzyme phosphoglycérate mutase convertitcette molécule dans son isomère 2-phosphoglycérate,permettant à l'enzyme énolase de libérer une molécule d'eauet de former une nouvelle structure à double liaison,le phosphoénolpyruvate ou PEP. 
Avec l'aide de la pyruvate kinase,les groupes phosphate sont retirés du PEP et donnés à l'ADP,générant deux molécules supplémentaires d'ATPen même temps que le produit fini, le pyruvate. 
Ainsi, à la fin de la glycolyse, un total net dede deux ATP sont produits, ainsi que deux NADHet deux molécules de pyruvate. 
En présence d'oxygène,le pyruvate peut être décomposé davantage,tandis que le NADH peut faire passer ses électrons dansla chaîne de transport d'électrons pour régénérer le NAD+.

Étapes de glycolyse conduisant à une libération d'énergie

Alors que la première phase de la glycolyse consomme de l’énergie pour transformer le glucose en glycéraldéhyde 3-phosphate (G3P), la deuxième phase produit de l’énergie. L’énergie est libérée sur une séquence de réactions qui transforme le G3P en pyruvate. La phase de libération d’énergie — les étapes 6 à 10 de la glycolyse — se produit deux fois, une fois pour chacun des deux sucres à 3 carbones produits au cours des étapes 1 à 5.
 
 La première étape de libération d’énergie, considérée comme la 6ème étape de la glycolyse globale, consiste en deux événements simultanés : l’oxydation et la phosphorylation du G3P. Le porteur d’électrons NAD+ enlève un hydrogène de G3P, oxydant le sucre à 3 carbones et transformant (réduisant) le NAD+ pour former du NADH et H+. L’énergie libérée est utilisée pour phosphoryler le G3P, le transformant en 1,3-bisphosphoglycérate.
 
 Dans l’étape suivante, le 1,3-bisphosphoglycérate convertit l’ADP en ATP en donnant un groupe phosphate, devenant ainsi du 3-phosphoglycérate. Le 3-phosphoglycérate est ensuite transformé en un isomère, le 2-phosphoglycérate.
 
 Par la suite, le 2-phosphoglycérate perd une molécule d’eau, devenant la molécule instable 2-phosphoénolpyruvate, ou PEP. Le PEP cède facilement son groupe phosphate à l’ADP, le convertissant en une seconde molécule d’ATP et devenant du pyruvate au cours de ce processus.
 
 La phase de libération d’énergie libère deux molécules d’ATP et une molécule de NADH par sucre transformé. Parce qu’elle se produit deux fois — pour chaque sucre à 3 carbone produit dans la phase nécessitant de l’énergie de la glycolyse — quatre molécules d’ATP et deux molécules de NADH sont libérées. Ainsi, pour chaque molécule de glucose, la glycolyse donne lieu à une production nette de deux molécules d’ATP (4 produites moins 2 utilisées pendant la phase nécessitant de l’énergie) et de deux molécules de NADH.
 
 La glycolyse produit deux molécules de pyruvate à 3 carbones à partir d’une molécule de glucose à 6 carbones. En présence d’oxygène, le pyruvate peut être décomposé en dioxyde de carbone dans le cycle de Krebs, libérant de nombreuses molécules d’ATP. NADH s’accumule dans la cellule, où il peut être converti en NAD+ et utilisé pour la glycolyse.

Glycolysis produces ATP and NADH during its energy-releasing phase. These reactions are the last steps of glycolysis and convert glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, or G3P, into pyruvate. The phase is often described as steps 6 to 10, and it happens twice because two 3-carbon sugars are made earlier in glycolysis.

The sixth step begins with two linked events. G3P is oxidized, which means it loses hydrogen, and it is phosphorylated, which means a phosphate group is added. NAD+ acts as the electron carrier and removes one hydrogen atom from G3P, forming NADH and H+. The energy released in this step helps turn G3P into 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate.

Next, 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate loses a phosphate group and becomes 3-phosphoglycerate. That phosphate group is transferred to ADP, which makes ATP. Then 3-phosphoglycerate changes into its isomer, 2-phosphoglycerate. After that, 2-phosphoglycerate loses water and becomes the unstable compound 2-phosphoenolpyruvate, or PEP.

PEP quickly loses its phosphate group to ADP. This creates a second ATP molecule and leaves pyruvate. For each converted 3-carbon sugar, the energy-releasing phase makes two ATP molecules and one NADH molecule. Because the phase runs twice, glycolysis produces four ATP molecules and two NADH molecules in this stage.

Overall, one glucose molecule yields two pyruvate molecules. Glycolysis has a net gain of two ATP molecules because four ATP are produced and two ATP are used in the energy-requiring phase. It also leaves two NADH molecules in the cell. In the presence of oxygen, pyruvate can continue into the Krebs cycle, where it is broken down into carbon dioxide and more ATP is released. NADH can later be converted back into NAD+ so glycolysis can continue.
