Overview of Anatomy and Physiology

Le corps humain est un système complexe étudié dans deux branches de la biologie : l’anatomie et la physiologie.
L’anatomie étudie la structure du corps et l’organisation des différentes parties du corps. Il est ensuite divisé en anatomie macroscopique et microscopique.
L’anatomie macroscopique permet d’examiner de grandes parties du corps, comme le cœur et les os, sans utiliser de microscope. 
En revanche, l’anatomie microscopique ou la microanatomie étudie des cellules et des tissus individuels à l’aide d’un microscope.
La physiologie étudie le fonctionnement des différentes parties du corps et les mécanismes qui régissent ces fonctions. Sur la base du niveau d’organisation, la physiologie peut être classée en moléculaire, cellulaire et systémique. 
La physiologie systémique peut être subdivisée en systèmes organiques. Ces divisions comprennent la physiologie cardiovasculaire, qui étudie le cœur et les systèmes sanguins, et la neurophysiologie, qui étudie le système nerveux.
Le principe de complémentarité de la structure et de la fonction stipule que les structures anatomiques humaines soutiennent leur fonction physiologique. Par exemple, les muscles contiennent des cellules contractiles qui leur permettent de bouger le corps.

L'anatomie humaine a d'abord été étudiée en observant l'extérieur du corps et les blessures des soldats et autres lésions. Plus tard, les médecins ont été autorisés à disséquer les corps des morts pour augmenter leurs connaissances. Lors de la dissection d'un corps, ses structures sont découpées pour observer leurs attributs physiques et leurs relations les unes avec les autres. La dissection est encore utilisée dans les écoles de médecine, les cours d'anatomie et les laboratoires de pathologie. Cependant, plusieurs techniques d'imagerie ont été développées pour observer les structures chez les personnes vivantes. Ces techniques permettent aux cliniciens de visualiser les structures à l'intérieur du corps vivant, comme une tumeur cancéreuse ou un os fracturé. Les anatomistes adoptent deux approches générales dans l'étude des structures du corps : régionale et systémique. L'anatomie régionale est l'étude des interrelations de toutes les structures dans une région spécifique du corps, telle que l'abdomen. L'étude de l'anatomie régionale nous aide à comprendre les interrelations des structures du corps, telles que la manière dont les muscles, les nerfs, les vaisseaux sanguins et autres structures travaillent ensemble pour servir une région spécifique du corps. En revanche, l'anatomie systémique est l'étude des structures qui composent un système corporel distinct, c'est-à-dire un groupe de structures qui travaillent ensemble pour effectuer une fonction corporelle unique. Par exemple, une étude anatomique systémique du système musculaire considérerait tous les muscles squelettiques du corps. Alors que l'anatomie concerne la structure, la physiologie concerne la fonction. La physiologie humaine est l'étude scientifique de la chimie et de la physique des structures du corps et de la manière dont elles travaillent ensemble pour soutenir les fonctions de la vie. Human anatomy studies the structures of the body. Some body structures are so small that they can only be seen and examined with a microscope. Others are large enough to be viewed, handled, measured, and weighed.

The word anatomy comes from a Greek root meaning “to cut apart.” Early study of the human body began with observing the outside of the body and the injuries seen in soldiers and other patients. Later, physicians were allowed to dissect dead bodies to learn more. Dissection means cutting a body apart to study its parts and how they relate to one another. It is still used in medical schools, anatomy courses, and pathology labs.

Today, several imaging methods also help scientists and clinicians study the living body. These techniques make it possible to see internal structures without dissection. They can show problems such as a cancerous tumor or a fractured bone.

Anatomists use two main approaches. Regional anatomy studies all of the structures in one body area, such as the abdomen. This helps show how muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and other parts work together in that region. Systemic anatomy studies one body system at a time, such as the muscular system, and looks at all of the skeletal muscles in the body.

Physiology focuses on function rather than structure. It is the scientific study of the chemistry and physics of body structures and how they work together to support life. Much of physiology centers on homeostasis, which is the maintenance of steady internal conditions in living things.

Physiology also uses observation, including the naked eye and microscopes. It includes manipulations and measurements as well. Modern physiology often depends on carefully designed laboratory experiments that reveal how body structures and chemical compounds work.
