Kidney Marrow Cells

Kidney marrow cells refers to bone marrow-derived cells that circulate to, reside in, or are recruited by kidney tissue, where they can influence local biology. These cells migrate through the bloodstream and interact with renal, immune, and cancer cells by releasing signaling molecules and responding to inflammatory or tumor-associated cues. In cancer research, studying their recruitment and behavior helps explain how hematopoietic cells shape the kidney tumor microenvironment, including inflammation, tissue remodeling, tumor growth, metastasis, and treatment response. This knowledge supports experimental models of kidney cancer and the development of therapies targeting interactions between tumors and their surrounding cells.

Cell transplantation is an essential technique for studying tissue regeneration and for developing cell-based therapies of disease. We demonstrate here a microsurgical technique that permits the transplantation of genetically labeled cells directly into the kidney of adult zebrafish fish.

Bone Marrow Aspiration: A Method to Obtain Bone Marrow to Examine Cell Morphology

This video describes the technique of aspirating bone marrow from iliac spine and smear preparation for biopsy. In the example, we perform bone marrow aspiration from an acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient and examine the cells to check for measurable residual disease (MRD), an important prognostic biomarker.

Techniques that are reliable and efficient for the isolation of kidney immune cells are needed for downstream applications. This requires surface antibody labeling of a small number of kidney immune cells. Herein, we describe a concise method for isolation of kidney immune cells that seemingly achieves this goal.
