Lung Cancer Models

Lung cancer models are experimental systems that reproduce key features of lung tumors to support research in cancer biology, diagnosis, and treatment. They may use cultured tumor cells, patient-derived organoids, genetically engineered animals, or xenografts, in which oncogenic mutations, tumor–microenvironment interactions, and drug responses can be examined under controlled conditions. Researchers use these models to study tumor initiation and progression, compare therapeutic strategies, and investigate resistance to targeted therapies or immunotherapies. Because each model captures different aspects of human disease, selecting an appropriate system is essential for translating laboratory findings into more predictive and personalized approaches to lung cancer care.

This video demonstrates a method to generate a mouse model of pleural dissemination by injecting lung cancer cell suspension into the thoracic cavity of an immunodeficient mouse.

A Minimally Invasive Method for Generating a Syngeneic Orthotopic Mouse Model of Lung Cancer

2025

A major challenge of developing new therapies for lung cancer includes modeling the tumor microenvironment as regional disease progresses to metastatic disease. Here, we describe a simple method of establishing an orthotopic syngeneic model of lung cancer that allows for in vivo tracking of disease over time.

2023

This video describes the two invitro model systems to capture the tissue architectural changes during lung squamous carcinoma progression in a 3-dimensional (3D) co-culture with cancer-associated fibroblasts. This system provides a unique platform to investigate the role of intrinsic and extrinsic changes that affect the tumor phenotype.
