Fluid Discharge

Fluid discharge is the movement of a liquid or gas from a system through an opening, pipe, nozzle, or other outlet, making it a fundamental concept in engineering flow analysis. Discharge rate depends on factors such as pressure difference, fluid properties, outlet geometry, and elevation; engineers often use conservation of mass, the continuity equation, and energy relationships to predict how fluid accelerates and how much leaves the system over time. Understanding fluid discharge supports the design and evaluation of pumps, valves, pipelines, drainage systems, irrigation networks, and industrial process equipment, helping improve flow control, efficiency, and operational safety.

2019

Here we present a protocol to induce severe TBI with the lateral fluid percussion injury (FPI) model in adult, male Wistar rats. We also demonstrate the use of a wireless telemetry system to collect continuous video-EEG recordings and monitor for epileptiform discharges consistent with post-traumatic...

RC Circuits: Discharging A Capacitor

2025

One of the applications of an RC circuit is the relaxation oscillator. The relaxation oscillator comprises a voltage source, a capacitor, a resistor, and a neon lamp. The lamp acts like an open circuit (infinite resistance) until the potential difference across the neon lamp reaches a specific voltage. At that voltage, the lamp acts like a short circuit (zero resistance), and the capacitor discharges through the neon lamp and produces light. Once the capacitor is fully discharged through the...

Discontinuing Intravenous Fluids and a Peripheral Intravenous Line

Source: Madeline Lassche, MSNEd, RN and Katie Baraki, MSN, RN, College of Nursing, University of Utah, UT Intravenous (IV) fluid administration and peripheral IV catheters (PIVs) may be discontinued for a number of reasons. The most common reason for discontinuing IV fluids is that the patient has returned to normal body fluid volume (euvolemia) and is able to maintain adequate oral fluid intake or is being discharged from the hospital. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control Guidelines...
