Plasma Liquid Interaction

Plasma-liquid interaction is the study of how an ionized gas exchanges energy, charge, and reactive species with a liquid surface, creating a coupled gas-liquid system. In engineering applications, electrical discharges generate electrons, ions, radicals, ultraviolet radiation, and electric fields near the interface; these drive chemical reactions and mass transfer within the liquid. This interaction can alter pH, oxidation state, composition, wetting, and surface properties depending on the plasma conditions and liquid chemistry. Engineers use it for water and wastewater treatment, surface modification, synthesis, and process intensification while studying interfacial transport and reaction pathways to improve efficiency and control.
