Sodium 22 Source

A Sodium-22 source is a sealed radioactive source containing the radionuclide sodium-22, valued for its predictable emissions and long half-life in scientific and engineering measurements. Sodium-22 decays by positron emission to excited neon-22; the positron annihilates with an electron, producing two 511 keV gamma photons, while nuclear de-excitation adds a characteristic 1.275 MeV gamma ray. These emissions support energy and efficiency calibration of gamma-ray detectors, positron lifetime spectroscopy, and testing of radiation-monitoring systems. In engineering research, Sodium-22 sources help verify instrument performance, characterize shielding, and develop imaging or materials-analysis methods, provided licensed handling, sealed-source integrity, and radiation-safety controls are maintained.

Regulation of Sodium and Potassium

2024

The regulation of sodium and potassium ion concentrations in the human body is a complex process governed primarily by hormones such as aldosterone, antidiuretic hormone (ADH), and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP). Sodium Regulation Sodium ions make up approximately 90% of extracellular cations, with a normal blood plasma concentration of 136–148 mEq/L. A decrease in blood volume and pressure triggers the release of renin from granular cells in the juxtaglomerular complex (JGC), primarily in...

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Suprita Jharimune, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA Working with extreme temperatures, both high and low, is an integral part of many laboratory operations. For many, mentioning a laboratory instantly evokes the mental picture of a Bunsen burner. Bunsen burners and hot plates are used extensively in small and large operations in research laboratories and industries, thus making it necessary for all users to be aware of their safe handling...

Misinformation & Source Credibility

2026

The rapid expansion of online information has increased access to knowledge while also increasing the risk of misinformation. Sources that appear authoritative may lack scholarly rigor, which makes credibility assessment a critical part of research literacy. Evaluating the reliability of information helps prevent the inclusion of weak, biased, or misleading material in academic work. Publication Source and Authorship A primary consideration is the publication source. Scholarly journals and...
