Landsat Imagery

Landsat imagery consists of satellite-based observations of Earth’s land surface, providing consistent, long-term information for environmental monitoring and scientific analysis. Landsat sensors record reflected and emitted energy in multiple portions of the electromagnetic spectrum, allowing researchers to distinguish materials and calculate indicators of vegetation condition, surface water, and land-cover change. By comparing images acquired across seasons and decades, scientists can assess deforestation, urban expansion, wildfire impacts, agricultural patterns, and ecosystem change. These data support conservation planning, natural-resource management, climate research, and evidence-based decisions about how environments respond to both natural processes and human activity.

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California Imagine the sound of a bell ringing. What is happening in the brain when we conjure up a sound like this in the "mind's ear?" There is growing evidence that the brain uses the same mechanisms for imagination that it uses for perception.1 For example, when imagining visual images, the visual cortex becomes activated, and when imagining sounds, the auditory cortex is engaged. However, to what extent are...

2016

We demonstrate the utility of remotely sensed data and the newly developed Software for Assisted Habitat Modeling (SAHM) in predicting invasive species occurrence on the landscape. An ensemble of predictive models produced highly accurate maps of tamarisk (Tamarix spp.) invasion in Southeastern Colorado, USA when assessed with subsequent field validations.

2019

The aim of the presented protocol is to investigate the role of visual imagery in the bouba/kiki-effect, whether training in noticing the bouba/kiki shape-audio regularities affects the bouba/kiki-effect and the recognition of individual bouba and kiki shapes, and finally what mental images these regularities produce.
