Field Efficacy Study

A field efficacy study is a research method that evaluates how well an intervention, product, or management practice performs under real-world environmental conditions. Researchers typically compare treated and untreated sites or establish control and experimental groups, then measure predefined outcomes while documenting factors such as weather, soil, water conditions, and biological variability. These studies connect controlled laboratory findings with practical performance in natural or managed ecosystems, helping determine effectiveness, consistency, and environmental relevance. Field efficacy data can inform environmental monitoring, conservation strategies, pollution-control practices, and decisions about implementing technologies or interventions at larger scales.

Luciferase Assay to Study Efficacy of Antiparasitic Chemicals Against Parasites

2025

The video demonstrates the luciferase assay used to determine the efficacy of an antiparasitic chemical inhibitor against the intracellular pathogen Toxoplasma gondii. The study involves luciferase-expressing parasites invading the host cells to replicate and survive. The chemical inhibitor binds with the cysteine proteases of the parasite and inhibits replication. The luciferase activity detected is proportional to the fold changes in parasite growth, determining the drug's efficacy against...

The efficacy of public health pesticides targeting nuisance and disease-vector insects is not uniform across different ecological zones. Here we present a system of techniques using captive vector insects as sentinels for pesticide efficacy to derive electronic maps supporting the standard evaluation of pesticides across multiple environments.

2025

Self-efficacy is the belief in one's capacity to organize and execute actions necessary to manage prospective situations. This belief significantly influences how individuals approach goals, tasks, and challenges across different domains of life.Psychological and Educational ImpactsIndividuals with strong self-efficacy are more resilient in the face of difficulties. They are more likely to adopt effective problem-solving strategies, persist through obstacles, and regulate emotions such as...

Electric Fields

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN An electric field is generated by a charged object (referred to as the source charge) in the space around it, and represents the ability to exert electric force on another charged object (referred to as the test charge). Represented by a vector at any given point in the space, the electric field is the electrical force per unit test charge placed at that point (the force...

Electrotaxis Studies of Lung Cancer Cells using a Multichannel Dual-electric-field Microfluidic Chip

Many microfluidic devices have been developed for use in the study of electrotaxis. Yet, none of these chips allows the efficient study of the simultaneous chemical and electric-field (EF) effects on cells. We developed a polymethylmethacrylate-based device that offers better-controlled coexisting EF and chemical stimulation for use in electrotaxis research.
