Monopolar Pulsed Discharge

Monopolar pulsed discharge is an electrical discharge produced by applying repeated high-voltage pulses of a single polarity to a gas or liquid between electrodes. The brief pulses create a nonthermal plasma in which energetic electrons collide with molecules, generating ions, reactive radicals, and sometimes ultraviolet radiation. These reactive species can break down or transform contaminants, making monopolar pulsed discharge relevant to environmental technologies such as air-pollution control, gas treatment, and water purification. Its effectiveness depends on pulse voltage, duration, frequency, electrode configuration, and the composition of the treated medium.

Pulse

When the heart pumps blood out, arterial elastic fibers play a crucial role in sustaining a high-pressure gradient. They expand to accommodate the received blood and then recoil - a process known as the pulse that can be either manually palpated or electronically quantified. Despite a reduction in its effect with increased distance from the heart, elements of the pulse's systolic and diastolic components persist, observable even at the arteriole level. The pulse serves as a clinical indicator...

The pulse is one of the most fundamental physiological indicators of the body's cardiovascular health. It is the rhythmic expansion and contraction of the arterial walls in response to the pressure generated by the heart's pumping action. Pulse Rate and its Significance Pulse rate, often measured in beats per minute (bpm), reflects the heart rate (HR), which is influenced by numerous factors such as stress, physical activity, and hormonal changes. A normal resting adult pulse rate falls between...

RC Circuits: Discharging A Capacitor

2025

One of the applications of an RC circuit is the relaxation oscillator. The relaxation oscillator comprises a voltage source, a capacitor, a resistor, and a neon lamp. The lamp acts like an open circuit (infinite resistance) until the potential difference across the neon lamp reaches a specific voltage. At that voltage, the lamp acts like a short circuit (zero resistance), and the capacitor discharges through the neon lamp and produces light. Once the capacitor is fully discharged through the...
