Bone Parameter Measurement

Bone parameter measurement is the quantitative assessment of bone properties, such as mineral density, thickness, geometry, and structural strength, to characterize skeletal health. In medicine, imaging and other standardized analytical methods measure how bone attenuates radiation, occupies three-dimensional space, or responds to applied force, with results compared across anatomical sites or reference populations. These data support evaluation of osteoporosis and fracture risk, monitoring of treatment, and assessment of bone development, healing, and disease-related changes. Reliable measurements also help researchers relate skeletal structure to mechanical function and improve diagnostic and therapeutic decisions.

A spectrofluorometric protocol for the measurement of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore opening in isolated mouse heart mitochondria is presented here. The assay involves the simultaneous measurement of mitochondria Ca2+ handling, mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial volume. The procedure for obtaining high-quality and functional heart mitochondria is also described.

The non-nutritive suck (NNS) device can easily collect and quantify NNS features using a pacifier connected to a pressure transducer and recorded through a data acquisition system and laptop. Quantification of NNS parameters can provide valuable insight into a child's current and future neurodevelopment.
