Brain Distribution Analysis

Brain Distribution Analysis is the systematic assessment of how a drug, biomolecule, cell population, or biological signal is distributed across brain regions over time, an important step in evaluating neurological treatments and disease mechanisms. The analysis typically combines tissue sampling or imaging with quantitative measurements to map localization, concentration, transport, and persistence, while accounting for barriers such as the blood-brain barrier. In medicine, these data help determine whether therapeutic agents reach intended targets, reveal regional exposure and off-target accumulation, and connect brain distribution with efficacy or toxicity. The approach supports drug development, neuropharmacology, diagnostics, and the refinement of targeted delivery strategies.

Quantifying the Distribution of a Presynaptic Protein in the Mouse Brain Using Immunofluorescence

2025

This video demonstrates the immunofluorescence staining of a mouse brain slice to quantify the distribution of a specific presynaptic protein. The process involves blocking nonspecific sites, applying primary antibodies for the target protein and a reference marker, followed by secondary antibody labeling and nuclear counterstaining. The reference marker ensures accurate quantification by providing a consistent baseline, and the distribution of the presynaptic protein is analyzed across brain...

This manuscript describes a protocol that applies comprehensive profiling for analysis of transcriptional programs induced in specific brain nuclei of rodents following behavioral paradigms. Herein, this approach is illustrated in the context of profiling genes induced in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) of mice following acute cocaine exposure, utilizing microfluidic qPCR arrays.

Presented here is a procedure for reproducible and statistically valid determinations of starch granule size distributions, and for specifying the determined granule lognormal size distributions using a two-parameter multiplicative form. It is applicable to all granule sizing analyses of gram-scale starch samples for plant and food science research.

We describe procedures for processing newborn rat brain tissue to obtain high-resolution electron micrographs for morphometric analysis of synaptic vesicle distribution at nerve terminals. The micrographs obtained with these methods can also be used to study the morphology of a number of other cellular components and their dimensional structural relationships.
