Electroacupuncture Procedure

Electroacupuncture is a therapeutic procedure that combines acupuncture needle placement with mild electrical stimulation to activate targeted tissues and neural pathways. After needles are inserted at selected anatomical points, a low-voltage current passes between pairs of needles, with frequency and intensity adjusted according to the treatment plan; this stimulation may influence sensory signaling and pain modulation. In medicine, electroacupuncture is used to investigate and manage pain and other symptoms, while clinical studies assess its physiological effects, safety, and effectiveness. Standardized procedures and careful monitoring support reproducible research and responsible clinical application.

Mouse Electroacupuncture Fixation Device Fabrication for Electroacupuncture Pretreatment in Diabetic Cardiomyopathy Mouse Model

2025

Here, we present a protocol to establish a mouse model of diabetic cardiomyopathy and a mouse electroacupuncture fixation device for the use of electroacupuncture in mice, which can fix the mice more gently during treatment.

Bulk Electroacupuncture Operation for Mice or Young Rats

2023

Here, we present a protocol for efficient and rapid electroacupuncture (EA) in mice or young rats using a three-dimensional (3D) printed holder. This technique allows simultaneous operation on multiple animals, saving time and increasing experimental efficiency.

Effects of Different Connection Modes of Electroacupuncture on Electrocardiogram and Nerve Discharge in Rats

2025

Until now, there is no uniform method for electroacupuncture connection in clinical and fundamental research. We present a protocol that attempted to compare the effects of different connection methods on electrocardiogram (ECG) and neural discharge in rats to explore the most appropriate way to connect the electroacupuncture instrument.

Ideally, the people who observe and record the children’s behavior are unaware of who was assigned to the experimental or control group, in order to control for experimenter bias. Experimenter bias refers to the possibility that a researcher’s expectations might skew the results of the study. Remember, conducting an experiment requires a lot of planning, and the people involved in the research project have a vested interest in supporting their hypotheses. If the observers knew which child was...

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN Mice and rats account for a large proportion of the animals used in biomedical research. Ensuring their welfare is both an ethical responsibility and essential for scientific validity. There are general procedures that apply to the majority of these mice and rats, but some of the animals, such as the immunocompromised ones, require additional steps to be taken to sustain them for...
