Electrocautery Stricture Induction

Electrocautery stricture induction is a procedural method that creates localized urethral narrowing through controlled thermal injury, providing an experimental model of stricture disease. During the procedure, an electrocautery instrument delivers electrical energy to a selected urethral segment, damaging epithelial and subepithelial tissues; healing then promotes inflammation, collagen deposition, and scar contraction that progressively reduce the lumen. In medical research, this model supports investigation of urethral fibrosis, evaluation of structural and functional outcomes, and testing of surgical, endoscopic, or pharmacological treatments. Standardized injury conditions help produce reproducible stricture severity and enable meaningful comparisons among studies.

2023

In the present protocol, a urethral stricture induction was developed in Wistar rats, followed by urethral reconstruction with a buccal mucosa graft. A retrograde urethrogram and laser Doppler assessment were performed, validating urethral reconstruction (after stricture formation) and graft placement.

Esophageal Strictures-I: Introduction

2025

Esophageal strictures involve abnormal narrowing or tightening of the esophagus. They vary in length and severity, ranging from mild constriction to complete obstruction, and are classified as benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Etiology The primary cause of esophageal strictures is long-standing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), accounting for about 70 to 80% of adult cases. Chronic acid reflux can lead to injury and scarring of the esophageal lining, culminating in...

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN This experiment will use inductive coils to demonstrate the concept of inductor and inductance. Magnetic induction will be demonstrated using a rod magnet inserted into or extracted away from the core of a coil to induce a transient electromotive force (emf) voltage in the coil, measured by a voltmeter. This experiment will also demonstrate the mutual inductance between...

University of Notre Dame, IN The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals ("The Guide") states that pain assessment and alleviation are integral components of the veterinary care of laboratory animals. The definition of anesthesia is the loss of feeling or sensation. It is a dynamic event involving changes in anesthetic depth with respect to an animal's metabolism, surgical stimulation, or variations in the...
