Mullerian Anomaly

Müllerian anomalies are congenital abnormalities of the uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, or vagina that arise during development of the female reproductive tract and may affect menstruation, fertility, or pregnancy. During embryogenesis, the paired Müllerian ducts form, elongate, fuse, and undergo canalization; disruption at any of these stages can produce patterns such as uterine duplication, an obstructed outflow tract, or absent structures. Clinical evaluation combines medical history and pelvic examination with ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, or hysteroscopy to define anatomy and guide individualized management. Recognizing these anomalies supports treatment of pain or obstruction, reproductive counseling, and pregnancy planning while improving understanding of congenital reproductive tract development.

A rapid and affordable way to extract quality malaria parasite and vector DNA from mosquito specimens is described. Capitalizing on chelating properties of Chelex resin, the simple method enables genotyping of malaria parasites in mosquito mid-gut and salivary gland phases, as well as molecular identification of the Anopheles sibling species by PCR.

Organized brain cutting procedures are necessary to correlate specific neuropsychiatric phenomena with definitive neuropathologic diagnoses. Brain cuttings are performed differently based on various clinico-academic contingencies. This protocol describes a symmetric bihemispheric brain cutting procedure to investigate hemispheric differences in human brain pathologies and to maximize current and future biomolecular/neuroimaging techniques.
