Qi Stagnation

Qi stagnation is a diagnostic concept in traditional Chinese medicine describing the impaired movement or constrained flow of qi, the vital energy believed to support physiological function. In this framework, disrupted circulation through the body’s meridian network may produce patterns such as distending discomfort, chest or abdominal fullness, mood changes, and symptoms that vary with emotional stress. Practitioners assess these patterns alongside pulse, tongue, and symptom findings rather than treating qi stagnation as a standalone biomedical disease. The concept informs individualized approaches, including acupuncture, movement practices, dietary guidance, and herbal formulas, while also providing a framework for studying traditional approaches to symptom management.

Static, Stagnation, Dynamic and Total Pressure

2026

The concept of static, stagnation, dynamic, and total pressure is fundamental in fluid dynamics, often explained using Bernoulli's equation: Here, p is static pressure,1/2⍴V2 is dynamic pressure, γz is hydrostatic pressure or potential energy pressure, and pT is total pressure, constant along a streamline for incompressible flows. 1. Static Pressure (p): This is the pressure exerted by a fluid at rest or as if flowing fluid is brought to rest in the direction of motion. It is measured using a...

Jet Impinging on an Inclined Plate

Source: Ricardo Mejia-Alvarez and Hussam Hikmat Jabbar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI The goal of this experiment is to demonstrate how a fluid flow exerts forces on structures by conversion of dynamic pressure into static pressure. To this end, we will make a plane jet impinge on a flat plate and will measure the resulting pressure distribution along the plate. The resultant force will be estimated by integrating the product between the...

2016

We present a protocol to perform subtractive patterning of live cell monolayers on a surface. This is achieved by local and selective lysis of adherent cells using a microfluidic probe (MFP). The cell lysate retrieved from local regions can be used for downstream analysis, enabling molecular profiling studies.

Pitot-static Tube: A Device to Measure Air Flow Speed

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire A Pitot-static tube is widely used for measuring unknown speeds in air flow, for example, it is used to measure airplane airspeed. By Bernoulli's principle, airspeed is directly related to variations in pressure. Therefore, the Pitot-static tube senses the stagnation pressure and static pressure. It is connected to a manometer or pressure transducer...

Pressure Transducer: Calibration Using a Pitot-static Tube

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC Fluid pressure is an important flow characteristic that is required to determine the aerodynamics of a system. One of the oldest and still existing pressure measurement systems is the manometer due to its accuracy and simplicity of operation. The manometer is generally a U-shaped glass tube that is partially filled with liquid, as shown in Figure 1. The U-tube manometer requires no...
