Rv Failure Induction

Right ventricular failure induction is a set of experimental methods used to reproduce impaired right-sided cardiac function and study its causes, progression, and treatment. Models typically increase right ventricular afterload through pulmonary artery constriction or pulmonary vascular injury, causing pressure overload, ventricular remodeling, reduced contractility, and systemic venous congestion. In medicine, these models help researchers examine interactions between the right ventricle and pulmonary circulation, identify physiological and molecular markers of decompensation, and evaluate drugs, devices, and surgical strategies. Carefully controlled induction protocols also support comparisons of acute versus chronic failure and improve understanding of cardiopulmonary disease.

Here, we provide a useful approach for studying the mechanism of right ventricular failure. A more convenient and efficient approach to pulmonary artery constriction is established using surgical instruments made inhouse. In addition, methods to evaluate the quality of this approach by echocardiography and catheterization are provided.

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN This experiment will use inductive coils to demonstrate the concept of inductor and inductance. Magnetic induction will be demonstrated using a rod magnet inserted into or extracted away from the core of a coil to induce a transient electromotive force (emf) voltage in the coil, measured by a voltmeter. This experiment will also demonstrate the mutual inductance between...

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. The objectives of this experiment are to find the equivalent circuit parameters of a three-phase induction motor using the per-phase equivalent circuit and tests similar to those used in transformer characterization. In electrical engineering, an equivalent circuit (or theoretical circuit) can be determined for a given system. The equivalent circuit retains all characteristics of the original system,...

We present a protocol to induce and phenotype an acute right heart failure in a large animal model with chronic pulmonary hypertension. This model can be used to test therapeutic interventions, to develop right heart metrics or to improve the understanding of acute right heart failure pathophysiology.

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals ("The Guide") states that pain assessment and alleviation are integral components of the veterinary care of laboratory animals. The definition of anesthesia is the loss of feeling or sensation. It is a dynamic event involving changes in anesthetic depth with respect to an animal's metabolism, surgical stimulation, or variations in the...
