Team Communication Exercise

A team communication exercise is a structured activity that develops how people exchange information, coordinate responsibilities, and make decisions together, an essential skill in medicine where effective teamwork supports patient safety. Participants may work through a clinical scenario using techniques such as role assignment, closed-loop communication, briefings, and clarification of critical information, followed by feedback or debriefing. These exercises help medical students and healthcare professionals recognize communication barriers, strengthen situational awareness, and coordinate care across disciplines. Regular practice can improve teamwork during handoffs, emergencies, and routine clinical workflows, supporting more consistent decisions and better patient outcomes.
