Ureteral Bladder Sleeve Resection

Ureteral bladder sleeve resection is a surgical procedure that removes the distal ureter together with its adjacent bladder wall, typically to treat a localized tumor while preserving the remaining urinary tract. The operation involves excising the diseased ureteral segment and bladder cuff en bloc, assessing surgical margins, and reconnecting the healthy ureter to the bladder through ureteral reimplantation. In medicine, this kidney-sparing approach can provide local tumor control for selected distal ureteral urothelial carcinomas when complete removal is feasible. Histopathologic examination guides staging and further management, while postoperative surveillance monitors for recurrence or obstruction.

2014

The murine model of irreversible unilateral ureteric obstruction (UUO) is presented together with the model of reversible UUO in which the ureteric obstruction is relieved by anastomosis of the severed ureter into the bladder. These models enable the study of renal inflammation and scarring as well as tissue remodeling.

Thoracoscopic Extended Right Middle Plus Lower Sleeve Lobectomy for Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer

Here we present thoracoscopic extended sleeve lobectomy, an applicable procedure for patients with centrally located non-small-cell lung cancer that exceeds an anatomic lobe and improves the probability of complete resection while preserving respiratory capacity.

Robotic Duodenal Sleeve Resection for Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor with Rare Exon 8 KIT Mutation Following Neoadjuvant Imatinib

This video case report demonstrates the unique management of a duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor with a rare, understudied, exon 8 KIT mutation. Neoadjuvant therapy resulted in a 30% reduction in tumor size, making the patient a candidate for a robotic-assisted duodenal sleeve resection instead of the more morbid pancreaticoduodenectomy.
