Environmental Light Dark

Environmental light-dark cycles are recurring patterns of illumination and darkness that provide major timing cues for organisms and are central to understanding circadian regulation in neuroscience. Light detected by specialized retinal photoreceptors signals the suprachiasmatic nucleus, the brain’s central circadian pacemaker, which coordinates daily rhythms in sleep, activity, hormone release, and other physiological functions. Researchers manipulate the timing, duration, or intensity of these conditions to examine biological clocks, neural pathways, and behavioral responses. This framework supports studies of sleep disruption, seasonal adaptation, laboratory animal behavior, and how altered lighting environments affect brain and body function.

Dark Triad and Person Perception

2025

Person perception is influenced by both external behaviors and the observer’s internal characteristics, including personality traits. Individuals with dark personality traits, comprising psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism — collectively known as the dark triad – exhibit manipulative and exploitative tendencies in social contexts. These traits affect how they perceive others and how they are perceived. The Role of Dark Personality Traits in Person PerceptionBlack et al. (2014) explored...
