Epidural Fat Removal

Epidural fat removal is a surgical technique that excises excess adipose tissue from the epidural space surrounding the spinal cord and nerve roots, where abnormal accumulation can contribute to neural compression. During decompression, surgeons carefully remove the obstructive fat, often through a posterior spinal approach, while preserving adjacent dura, nerve tissue, and stabilizing structures. The procedure is primarily used to treat symptomatic spinal epidural lipomatosis, which may cause back pain, sensory changes, weakness, or impaired mobility. In neuroscience and spine research, it provides a clinical framework for understanding how altered spinal anatomy affects neural function and for evaluating decompression outcomes.

Non-restraining EEG radiotelemetry is a valuable methodological approach to record in vivo long-term electroencephalograms from freely moving rodents. This detailed protocol describes stereotaxic epidural and deep intracerebral electrode placement in different brain regions in order to obtain reliable recordings of CNS rhythmicity and CNS related behavioral stages.

A novel technique to record the pressures within the skull is described. The minimally invasive method uses a fibre-optic pressure sensing system to accurately measure intracranial pressure (ICP) in anaesthetized rats without causing significant brain trauma. The technique may be used in a wide range of experimental models.

We describe an ovarian fad pad transplantation assay suitable for studies of normal and transformed epithelia of the female reproductive tract. The mouse fat pad allows transplantation of large tissue fragments, is easily accessible for surgery and imaging, and provides the most favorable native environment for tissues of Müllerian origin.
