Intraoperative Neuronavigation

Intraoperative neuronavigation is an image-guided surgical technology that helps neurosurgeons locate and treat brain and spinal structures with greater spatial precision. It aligns preoperative MRI or CT scans with the patient’s anatomy through image registration, then uses tracked instruments and a surgical reference system to display the instrument’s position relative to critical tissue in real time. Because surgery can cause brain shift that reduces the accuracy of static images, clinicians interpret navigation data alongside direct anatomical visualization and intraoperative imaging when available. This approach supports planning and guidance for tumor resection, vascular procedures, biopsies, and electrode placement, helping protect eloquent regions and improve procedural control in neuroscience research and clinical care.

In early gastric cancer, the aim of surgery is to precisely remove the distal stomach including the primary tumor. To do this, accurate localization of the tumor is crucial, especially in totally laparoscopic surgery. This protocol describes a procedure for intraoperative gastroscopy in totally laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy.
