Neonatal Mouse Inner Ear

The neonatal mouse inner ear is the developing auditory and vestibular system of newborn mice, widely used to study how sensory circuits for hearing and balance form. During early postnatal development, cochlear and vestibular hair cells convert mechanical movement into electrical signals, while supporting cells and neurons mature through coordinated genetic and cellular processes. This model enables researchers to examine sensory-organ development, neural connectivity, hair-cell injury, and repair, including responses to genetic manipulation or ototoxic stress. Findings from neonatal mice help clarify mechanisms of auditory and vestibular dysfunction and support the development of treatments for hearing loss and balance disorders.

Primary mouse cardiomyocyte cultures are one of the pivotal tools for the investigation of myofibrillar organization and function. The following protocol describes the isolation and culture of primary cardiomyocytes from neonatal mouse hearts. The resulting cardiomyocyte cultures may be subsequently used for a variety of biomechanical, biochemical and cell-biological assays.

2025

This video showcases canalostomy, a procedure that allows local drug delivery into the inner ear of a mouse through the semicircular canal with minimal damage to hearing and vestibular function. This method enables the inoculation of viral vectors, pharmaceuticals, and small molecules into the mouse's inner ear.
