Viral Distribution Analysis

Viral distribution analysis is the systematic assessment of where viral vectors travel and which cells they reach, providing essential information about the spatial and cellular effects of viral delivery in neuroscience. Researchers typically administer a vector to defined brain regions, allow it to spread and express a genetic payload, then examine labeled tissue using microscopy or related detection methods. Measuring injection accuracy, distribution volume, cellular tropism, and expression patterns helps determine whether a vector targets the intended neural circuits. These data support circuit tracing, gene manipulation, disease modeling, and evaluation of delivery strategies for neuroscience research.

Source: Suzuki, Y., et al. Measuring Dengue Virus RNA in the Culture Supernatant of Infected Cells by Real-time Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates the procedure for preparing viral samples for quantitative PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) analysis. Viral samples and RNA standards are serially diluted, treated with a proteinase K buffer, and incubated under controlled temperatures to release RNA. The processed RNA is then stabilized and stored for...

Presented here is a procedure for reproducible and statistically valid determinations of starch granule size distributions, and for specifying the determined granule lognormal size distributions using a two-parameter multiplicative form. It is applicable to all granule sizing analyses of gram-scale starch samples for plant and food science research.

Viral Recombination

2019

Cells are sometimes infected by more than one virus at once. When two viruses disassemble to expose their genomes for replication in the same cell, similar regions of their genomes can pair together and exchange sequences in a process called recombination. Alternatively, viruses with segmented genomes can swap segments in a process called reassortment. Viral Recombination Can Create New Diseases Some diseases can infect multiple species. For example, pigs can be infected by some human and...
