Visceral Function

Visceral function refers to the regulation and activity of internal organs, including the heart, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, bladder, and reproductive organs, and is essential for maintaining homeostasis. In neuroscience, the autonomic nervous system, enteric nervous system, sensory feedback, and endocrine signals coordinate these functions largely outside conscious control; sympathetic and parasympathetic pathways adjust organ activity in response to internal and external conditions. Studying visceral function clarifies how the brain and body communicate through neural circuits and reflexes. This knowledge supports research into autonomic disorders, pain, stress responses, digestion, cardiovascular regulation, and other conditions involving internal organ control.

Functional Groups

2020

Functional groups are a group of atoms with characteristic properties, which when linked to the carbon skeleton of a molecule, alter the properties of that molecule. For example, the presence of certain functional groups on a molecule will make them hydrophilic, whereas others will make them hydrophobic. These functional groups are an indispensable part of organic chemistry and important components of biological molecules, such as carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. Each...

In Vivo Calcium Imaging of Dorsal Root Ganglia Neurons' Response to Somatic and Visceral Stimuli
