Den kroniske fortvivlelsesmusemodel (CDM) af depression består af gentagne tvungne svømmesessioner og en anden forsinket svømmefase som udlæsning. Det repræsenterer en egnet model til induktion af en kronisk depressiv-lignende tilstand stabil i mindst 4 uger, der kan ændres til at evaluere subkroniske og akutte behandlingsinterventioner.
