Oven Bag Preparation

Oven bag preparation is a cooking method in which food and seasonings are enclosed in a heat-resistant bag for roasting or baking. The enclosed environment traps water vapor and reduces evaporative moisture loss, while heat moves through the bag and drives biochemical changes such as protein denaturation, starch gelatinization, and Maillard browning when surface temperatures become high enough. In biochemistry, this preparation offers a practical model for examining how temperature, moisture, and confinement influence reaction rates, texture, nutrient retention, and lipid oxidation during food processing. It also supports controlled comparisons of cooking conditions while reducing splatter and simplifying cleanup.

2014

We present a simple and efficient protocol for the generation of human macrophages. Buffy coats are processed by double density gradient centrifugation and isolated monocytes are then differentiated to macrophages in Teflon-coated cell culture bags. This maximizes macrophage yields and facilitates cell harvesting for subsequent experiments.

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Dana Lashley - College of William and Mary Demonstrated by: Timothy Beck and Lucas Arney Many reactions in organic chemistry are moisture-sensitive and must be carried out under careful exclusion of water. In these cases the reagents have a high affinity to react with water from the atmosphere and if left exposed the desired reaction will not take place or give poor yields, because the reactants are chemically altered. In order to prevent undesired reactions with H2O...

A Clinical Trial Assessing the Safety, Efficacy, and Delivery of Olive-Oil-Based Three-Chamber Bags for Parenteral Nutrition

Here, we present a protocol for a study comparing the efficacy, safety, and delivery of olive-oil-based 3CB and soybean-oil-based CoB formulations in adults requiring parenteral nutrition. The results revealed that olive-oil-based 3CBs is non-inferior and well tolerated compared to soybean formulations.

Careful sample preparation is critical in analytical chemistry to accurately generate either a standard or unknown sample for a chemical measurement. Errors in analytical chemistry methods are categorized as random or systematic. Random errors are errors due to change and are often due to noise in instrument. Systematic errors are due to...
