Ferric Ammonium Sulfate

Ferric ammonium sulfate is a hydrated inorganic iron(III) salt, also called ferric alum, valued as a source of Fe3+ in analytical chemistry and biological laboratory procedures. In water, it dissociates into ions; the ferric ion hydrolyzes and coordinates with ligands, allowing it to act as a mordant that binds tissue components and enhances retention of specific dyes. In cancer research, ferric ammonium sulfate supports histological methods such as iron hematoxylin staining, where it helps produce high-contrast images of cellular and tissue structures. These preparations can improve assessment of tumor morphology, nuclear detail, and treatment-associated changes in experimental specimens.
