Advanced Visualization Aids

Advanced Visualization Aids are technologies and methods that improve how clinicians view, interpret, and communicate anatomical or pathological information from clinical images and other visual data. They work by processing or presenting information with functions such as magnification, contrast enhancement, multiplanar or three-dimensional reconstruction, and image-guided display, helping users distinguish relevant structures and relationships. In clinical practice, these aids can support diagnosis, treatment planning, procedural guidance, education, and communication among healthcare teams, while reducing dependence on unaided visual interpretation. Their value depends on appropriate image quality, clinical context, and trained users who can assess both the visualization and its limitations.

Metal ions can be separated from one another by complexation with organic ligands–the chelating agent– to form uncharged chelates. Here, the chelating agent must contain hydrophobic groups and behave as a weak acid, losing a proton to bind with the metal. Since most organic ligands used in this process are insoluble or undergo oxidation in the aqueous phase, the chelating agent is initially added to the organic phase and extracted into the aqueous phase. The metal-ligand complex is formed in...

Visualizing Adhesion Formation in Cells by Means of Advanced Spinning Disk-Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy

2019

An advanced microscope that permit fast and high-resolution imaging of both, the isolated plasma membrane and the surrounding intracellular volume, will be presented. The integration of spinning disk and total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy in one setup allows live imaging experiments at high acquisition rates up to 3.5 s per image stack.
