Catheter Ablation

Catheter ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that treats cardiac arrhythmias by eliminating small areas of heart tissue responsible for abnormal electrical signals. During the procedure, clinicians guide thin catheters through blood vessels into the heart, use electrical mapping to locate the arrhythmogenic focus or pathway, and deliver radiofrequency energy or cryotherapy to create precise scars that interrupt faulty conduction. In clinical practice, catheter ablation can restore more regular heart rhythms and reduce symptoms or dependence on medication for conditions such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and certain tachycardias. Its use also advances through improved mapping systems, imaging, and energy-delivery technologies.
