Conference Attendance

Conference attendance is participation in professional meetings where researchers, clinicians, and other specialists share findings, methods, and perspectives on a defined area of healthcare or science. Through lectures, poster sessions, workshops, and discussions, attendees communicate evidence, evaluate emerging approaches, and build connections that support collaborative learning. In clinical settings, these exchanges can help participants interpret new research, compare diagnostic or therapeutic practices, and identify questions for further investigation. Conference attendance therefore contributes to continuing education, professional collaboration, and the translation of scientific knowledge into improved clinical research and care.

Attention control comprises enhancement of target signals and attenuation of distractor signals. We describe an approach to measure separately but concurrently, the neurophysiology of attending and ignoring in sustained intermodal attention, utilizing a passive control condition during which neither process is continuously engaged.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University It is a well-known fact that the human ability to process incoming stimuli is limited. Nonetheless, the world is complicated, and there are always many things going on at once. Selective attention is the mechanism that allows humans and other animals to control which stimuli get processed and which become ignored. Think of a cocktail party: a person couldn’t possibly attend to all of the conversations taking place at once.

Set-shifting, a form of behavioral flexibility, requires an attentional shift from one stimulus dimension to another. We extended an established rodent set-shifting task1 by requiring attention to different stimuli according to context. The task was combined with specific lesions to identify neuron subtypes underlying a successful shift.

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel— University of Southern California The human visual system is incredibly sophisticated and capable of processing large amounts of information very quickly. However, the brain's capacity to process information is not an unlimited resource. Attention, the ability to selectively process information that is relevant to current goals and to ignore information that is not, is therefore an essential part of visual perception. Some aspects of...
