Kyphoscoliosis

Kyphoscoliosis is a three-dimensional spinal deformity that combines excessive forward curvature, or kyphosis, with abnormal lateral curvature and rotation, or scoliosis. It develops when vertebral alignment changes across multiple planes, which can alter posture, balance, and the shape of the thoracic cage; severe deformity may restrict chest expansion and impair breathing. In clinical practice, evaluation includes physical examination and spinal imaging to characterize curvature, rotation, progression, and underlying causes. Management depends on severity, age, symptoms, and progression, ranging from observation and physiotherapy to bracing or corrective surgery, with treatment aimed at preserving function and preventing complications.
