Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage is the movement of excess interstitial fluid, proteins, immune cells, and cellular waste from tissues through lymphatic vessels to lymph nodes and ultimately back into the bloodstream. One-way valves guide lymph through collecting vessels, while smooth muscle contractions, skeletal muscle activity, and breathing help propel it when no central pump exists. In clinical practice, assessment of lymphatic drainage supports understanding of lymphedema, inflammation, infection, and impaired fluid balance. Manual lymphatic drainage and compression-based approaches may assist fluid mobilization in selected patients, while imaging and physiological studies help evaluate lymphatic function and guide treatment.

Acid Mine Drainage

2026

Mining activities that disturb sulfide-rich rocks, particularly those containing pyrite (FeS₂), initiate a cascade of geochemical and microbiological processes with serious environmental implications. When exposed to air and water, pyrite undergoes oxidation, releasing sulfate, ultimately forming sulfuric acid and mobilizing heavy metals into surrounding water systems. This phenomenon, known as acid mine drainage (AMD), results in low pH waters laden with toxic elements that threaten aquatic...
