Nurse Professional Conduct

Nurse professional conduct comprises the ethical, legal, and practice standards that guide nurses’ behavior, decision-making, and relationships in clinical care. It operates through principles such as respect for patient autonomy, confidentiality, integrity, accountability, clear communication, and adherence to institutional policies and professional codes. By applying these standards during assessment, treatment, documentation, delegation, and collaboration, nurses help protect patient safety and support informed, compassionate care. Professional conduct also strengthens trust within healthcare teams, promotes equitable treatment, and provides a framework for addressing conflicts, errors, boundary concerns, and other challenges encountered in clinical practice.
