Slit Lamp Photography

Slit lamp photography is a specialized imaging technique that captures magnified, high-resolution photographs of the eye’s anterior structures, supporting objective documentation and analysis in ophthalmic care and biomedical engineering. A slit lamp microscope directs a narrow, adjustable beam of light through the cornea and other ocular tissues while a camera records the illuminated optical section, with magnification, focus, and illumination angle controlling image detail and contrast. These images help document corneal lesions, cataracts, inflammation, and treatment outcomes over time. Digital capture also enables image-based measurement, remote consultation, instrument development, and automated analysis for research and clinical decision-making.

2014

A procedure for creating and imaging capillary bridges in slit-pore geometry is presented. The creation of capillary bridges relies on the formation of pillars to provide a directional physical and chemical heterogeneity to pin the fluid. Capillary bridges are formed and manipulated using microstages and visualized using a CCD camera.

Fundus photography normally requires specialized fundus cameras that are not always available in all clinical settings. Here, a simple method to record ocular fundus images using a smartphone camera and a conventional high-plus handheld indirect ophthalmoscopy lens is described.

Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) Assays for the Species-specific Detection of Eimeria that Infect Chickens

2015

Diagnosis of Eimeria infection in chickens remains demanding. Parasite morphology- and host pathology-led approaches are commonly inconclusive, while molecular approaches based on PCR have proven demanding in cost and expertise. The aim of this protocol is to establish loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) as a straightforward molecular diagnostic for eimerian infection.

2018

This paper reports the protocol for a rapid identification assay for Bemisia tabaci based on loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technology. The protocol requires minimal laboratory training and can, therefore, be implemented on-site at points of entry for plant imports such as seaports and airports.
