Foam Pad Attachment

Foam pad attachment is a practical method for securing porous foam material to a surface or sampling device, allowing it to remain positioned during environmental observation or collection. The pad works by providing a stable contact area that can retain particles, residues, or other materials from the surrounding environment, while an adhesive, fastener, or fitted support keeps it in place. After exposure, researchers can remove and examine the pad to assess environmental conditions or contaminant presence. This approach supports low-cost field sampling, surface monitoring, and comparisons across locations or exposure periods, helping link environmental measurements to potential sources and changing conditions.

Attachment

Attachment is vital for infant development, as warm social interactions support growth and well-being. In a classic 1958 study by Harry Harlow, the significance of warmth and comfort in forming attachments was examined. Harlow separated newborn monkeys from their mothers and provided two artificial "mothers": one made of cold wire and the other covered in soft cloth. Despite the wire mother offering food, the infant monkeys preferred the comfort of the cloth mother, demonstrating that physical...

We describe an ovarian fad pad transplantation assay suitable for studies of normal and transformed epithelia of the female reproductive tract. The mouse fat pad allows transplantation of large tissue fragments, is easily accessible for surgery and imaging, and provides the most favorable native environment for tissues of Müllerian origin.

Microscopy-Based Evaluation of Bacterial Attachment to Plant Root Surfaces

Source: Matthysse, A. G. Adherence of Bacteria to Plant Surfaces Measured in the Laboratory. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates the evaluation of bacterial attachment to plant roots using phase-contrast microscopy. Root samples from seedlings incubated with bacteria are first mounted to check for free bacteria. The samples are then washed to remove loosely attached bacteria and remounted using a suitable coverslip to prevent damage. Finally, the number of bacteria attached to the root...
