Virus Recovery Assessment

Virus Recovery Assessment is the evaluation of how effectively a sampling and laboratory workflow retrieves viruses from an environmental matrix. It typically compares the amount of virus detected after collection, concentration, and nucleic acid extraction with a known input or reference measurement, revealing losses caused by adsorption, filtration, inhibition, or incomplete extraction. In environmental research, recovery estimates help validate analytical methods and support more accurate interpretation of virus concentrations in water, soil, wastewater, and other samples. This assessment strengthens environmental surveillance, improves comparisons among studies, and helps distinguish changes in viral abundance from variation introduced by sample processing.
