Gps Receiver

A GPS receiver is an electronic device that determines its geographic position, velocity, and time by interpreting signals from Global Positioning System satellites, making it important for accurate spatial measurement. It calculates location through trilateration, comparing the arrival times of signals from multiple satellites and applying timing and atmospheric corrections to estimate latitude, longitude, and elevation. In environmental sciences, GPS receivers support field mapping, habitat and land-cover surveys, water-quality sampling, and tracking of animals or environmental changes. Their georeferenced measurements can be integrated with geographic information systems to analyze spatial patterns, improve monitoring, and guide conservation and resource-management decisions.
