Central Bank

Central bank is a national or regional institution responsible for managing a country’s money supply, currency, and core financial stability, making it a central actor in macroeconomics. It influences economic activity primarily through monetary policy, adjusting policy interest rates and using tools such as open-market operations, reserve requirements, or asset purchases to affect borrowing costs, liquidity, inflation, and employment. Central banks also supervise or support financial systems, manage foreign reserves, and act as lenders of last resort, so their decisions shape business cycles, exchange rates, and living standards.
