Cold Lateral Compaction

Cold lateral compaction is a root canal obturation technique that fills a cleaned and shaped tooth canal with gutta-percha and sealer to prevent microbial reentry and support treatment success. A master gutta-percha cone is fitted to the prepared canal, coated with sealer, and laterally compressed against the canal wall with a hand spreader; additional accessory cones occupy the spaces created by compaction. This method provides dimensional control and is widely used in endodontic therapy because it requires relatively simple equipment and offers predictable working length management. Its effectiveness depends on thorough canal preparation, adaptation of the filling material, and an adequate coronal seal.

Compact Bone

2025

Most bones contain compact and spongy osseous tissue, but their distribution and concentration vary based on the bone's overall function. Compact bone, also called cortical bone, is the denser, stronger of the two types of bone tissue. It is found under the periosteum and in the diaphyses of long bones, where it provides support and protection. The microscopic structural unit of compact bone is called an osteon, or haversian system. Each osteon is composed of concentric rings of calcified...

Compacting Factor test

The compacting factor test is a method used to assess the workability of concrete. It is especially suitable for concrete mixes containing aggregates up to one and a half inches in size. This test involves specialized equipment consisting of two truncated cone-shaped hoppers and a cylinder, all with polished interior surfaces to minimize friction. The procedure begins by placing concrete into the upper hopper without any compaction. Once filled, the bottom door of this hopper is opened,...

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Suprita Jharimune, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA Working with extreme temperatures, both high and low, is an integral part of many laboratory operations. For many, mentioning a laboratory instantly evokes the mental picture of a Bunsen burner. Bunsen burners and hot plates are used extensively in small and large operations in research laboratories and industries, thus making it necessary for all users to be aware of their safe handling...
