Ct Pulmonary Angiography

CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA) is a contrast-enhanced computed tomography technique that produces detailed images of the pulmonary arteries, helping evaluate suspected vascular disease in the lungs. During the scan, intravenous iodinated contrast travels through the bloodstream while timed CT acquisition captures arterial opacification, allowing filling defects to be identified within the pulmonary vasculature. CTPA is primarily used to diagnose or exclude acute pulmonary embolism and can also reveal alternative thoracic abnormalities, such as lung or pleural disease. Its rapid acquisition and high anatomic detail make it an important tool in emergency medicine, although contrast exposure and radiation require appropriate patient assessment.

This CT-guided protocol localizes ground-glass nodules preoperatively using tissue adhesive and a glucose test, which verifies needle placement and prevents airway injection-enhancing safety and distinguishing it from prior localization techniques.

Catheter-based Endovascular Angioplasty for Fibrosing Mediastinitis-associated Pulmonary Vein Stenosis

2025

Pulmonary vein stenosis (PVS) is a life-threatening complication of fibrosing mediastinitis (FM), with a poor prognosis if not properly treated. Currently, catheter-based endovascular angioplasty is a promising therapeutic strategy for FM-associated PVS. This protocol primarily outlines a stepwise approach to the transcatheter procedure for FM-associated PVS.

2023

Source: Alycia G. Berman, James A. Schaber, and Craig J. Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana Here we will demonstrate the fundamentals of single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) imaging using mice. The technique involves injecting a radionuclide into a mouse, imaging the animal after it is distributed throughout the body, and then reconstructing the produced images to create a volumetric dataset. This can...
