Icp Trace Validation

ICP trace validation is the process of assessing whether an intracranial pressure recording accurately represents pressure within the skull and can support clinical interpretation. It matters because unreliable traces may obscure dangerous pressure changes or lead to inappropriate decisions. A validated trace is checked after appropriate transducer setup and zeroing, then reviewed for a plausible waveform, consistent pulse-related variation, stable signal quality, and artifacts caused by movement, damping, or disconnection. In medicine, this quality assessment strengthens monitoring of patients at risk of intracranial hypertension, supports recognition of clinically meaningful trends, and improves confidence when ICP data guide treatment or are correlated with neurological findings and other monitoring measures.

Size exclusion chromatography hyphenated with inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is a powerful tool to measure changes in the abundance of metalloproteins directly from biological samples. Here we describe a set of metalloprotein standards used to estimate molecular mass and the amount of metal associated with unknown proteins.

Reliability and Validity

2020

Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways. Unfortunately, being consistent in measurement does not necessarily mean that you have measured something correctly. To illustrate this concept, consider a kitchen...

Viral Tracing of Genetically Defined Neural Circuitry

A method of tracing synaptically connected neurons is described. We use TVA specificity of an upstream cell to probe whether a cell population of interest receives synaptic input from genetically defined cell types.

Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS): Interferences

2024

Inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (ICP–MS) is a highly selective and sensitive technique for accurate elemental analysis. Though the analysis of ICP–MS mass spectra is comparatively straightforward, it is affected by spectroscopic and non-spectroscopic interferences. Spectroscopic interferences arise when the plasma contains ionic species with an m/z value the same as the analyte ion. Spectroscopic interference can be categorized as isobaric, polyatomic ions, and refractory oxide ion...
