Mesothelial Cell Invasion

Mesothelial cell invasion is the movement of mesothelial cells through or beyond the normally protective mesothelial lining that covers serosal surfaces, a process relevant to tissue injury, inflammation, and disease progression. It involves changes in cell adhesion and cytoskeletal organization that enable cells to detach, migrate, and interact with the underlying extracellular matrix, often after the barrier is disrupted by inflammatory or pathological signals. Studying this behavior helps researchers analyze wound repair, fibrosis, and the spread of malignant cells across body cavities, while invasion assays and imaging approaches provide measurable evidence of cellular motility and barrier remodeling.
