Ocular Trauma Assessment

Ocular trauma assessment is the systematic evaluation of eye and orbital injuries after blunt, penetrating, or chemical exposure, helping clinicians identify threats to vision and ocular integrity. Assessment combines the mechanism and timing of injury with visual acuity, pupillary responses, external inspection, slit-lamp examination, fluorescein testing, and targeted imaging. Findings such as a corneal defect, hyphema, retinal abnormality, or suspected globe rupture determine urgency; when open-globe injury is possible, clinicians avoid pressure on the eye and prioritize protective measures and specialist care. This approach supports rapid triage, treatment planning, and outcome monitoring in emergency medicine, ophthalmology, and surgical care.

Pseudofracture, a reproducible murine model of sterile musculoskeletal trauma, allows for evaluation of late term post-traumatic immune responses. This article describes the procedural execution of the model step by step, including the potential for experimental model combinations to permit study of multiple trauma.

Experimental Glaucoma Induced by Ocular Injection of Magnetic Microspheres

We present a method for inducing elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), by injecting magnetic microspheres into the rat eye, to model glaucoma. This leads to strong pressure rises, and extensive neuronal death. This protocol is easy to perform, does not require repeat injections, and produces stable long-lasting IOP rises.

Acute Brain Trauma in Mice Followed By Longitudinal Two-photon Imaging

Acute brain trauma is a severe injury that has no adequate treatment to date. Multiphoton microscopy allows studying longitudinally the process of acute brain trauma development and probing therapeutical strategies in rodents. Two models of acute brain trauma studied with in vivo two-photon imaging of brain are demonstrated in this protocol.

We present a protocol of personalized script-driven trauma-related imagery and clinical assessments within a comparison design for investigating peritraumatic dissociation (PD), psychophysiological reactions, i.e. heart rate (HR) and skin conductance (SC), and psychological features of often severely traumatized individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD).
