T1-weighted Mri

T1-weighted MRI is a magnetic resonance imaging technique that emphasizes differences in tissues’ longitudinal relaxation, producing high-contrast anatomical images without ionizing radiation. It typically uses short repetition and echo times: tissues with short T1 values, such as fat, recover longitudinal magnetization rapidly and generate stronger signal, whereas fluids with long T1 values appear relatively dark. This contrast supports evaluation of brain structure, soft tissues, and changes in tissue composition, and it provides a baseline for comparison with other MRI sequences. After contrast administration, T1-weighted images can also highlight regions with increased contrast-agent accumulation, helping characterize lesions, inflammation, and disrupted vascular barriers.

This protocol describes the process of applying seven different automated segmentation tools to structural T1-weighted MRI scans to delineate grey matter regions that can be used for the quantification of grey matter volume.

DCE-MRI of Orthotopic Pancreatic Tumor Xenografts: A Method to Assess Microvasculature in a Target Tumor Tissue

2023

This video describes the technique of DCE-MRI for orthotropic pancreatic tumor xenografts in mice. DCE-MRI is a non-invasive method to analyze microvasculature in a target tissue, and useful to assess vascular response in a tumor following a novel therapy. This method will assist investigators to apply DCE-MRI for orthotopic gastrointestinal cancer mouse models.

Weighted Mean

2023

While taking the arithmetic, geometric, or harmonic mean of a sample data set, equal importance is assigned to all the data points. However, all the values may not always be equally important in some data sets. An intrinsic bias might make it more important to give more weightage to specific values over others. For example, consider the number of goals scored in the matches of a tournament. While computing the average number of goals scored in the tournament, it may be more important to...

Synthesis of an In vivo MRI-detectable Apoptosis Probe

2012

Early detection of apoptosis may identify at-risk cell populations in a variety of diseases. Here we demonstrate a method to link an early apoptosis-detection protein (Annexin V) to a MRI-detectable iron oxide nanoparticle (SPIO). This method may be extended to other proteins of interest to generate MRI-detectable molecular imaging probes.
