3d Virtual Objects

3D virtual objects are computer-generated representations with shape, depth, and spatial relationships that can be viewed or manipulated in digital environments. Software constructs these objects from geometric models, textures, lighting, and rendering algorithms, then presents them from changing viewpoints or within immersive systems such as virtual reality. In neuroscience, 3D virtual objects help researchers visualize brain structures, model neural environments, and study how the brain perceives form, motion, and spatial relationships. They also support education, experimental task design, rehabilitation, and simulation-based training, linking computational visualization with research on perception, cognition, and motor control.

We describe a novel methodology for creating naturalistic 3-D objects and object categories with precisely defined feature variations. We use simulations of the biological processes of morphogenesis and phylogenesis to create novel, naturalistic virtual 3-D objects and object categories that can then be rendered as visual images or haptic objects.

Integrating Automated Simulation Workflows with 3D Visualization for Virtual Experiments in the Metaverse

2026

A generalized, FAIR-compliant method is presented for domain-expert researchers seeking to integrate simulation and data-processing tools into automated workflows for 3D virtual experiments. A neutronics example demonstrates setting up a local Galaxy instance, wrapping OpenMC and file-conversion tools, launching workflows from Omniverse, and visualizing the converted 3D outputs.
