Ca1 Region

The CA1 region is a subfield of the hippocampus that integrates incoming information and supports the formation and retrieval of episodic and spatial memories. Excitatory signals from CA3 pyramidal neurons reach CA1 pyramidal cells through Schaffer collateral fibers, where coincident presynaptic activity and postsynaptic depolarization can strengthen synapses through NMDA receptor-dependent long-term potentiation. Because CA1 circuitry is sensitive to changes in synaptic plasticity, oxygen supply, and neuronal injury, it is widely studied in learning and memory, epilepsy, aging, and ischemic damage. CA1 recordings and manipulations help link cellular mechanisms to behavior.

Recording CA3-CA1 Synaptic Responses in a Rat Hippocampal Slice

2025

This video demonstrates a method to record CA3-CA1 synaptic responses in a rat hippocampal slice. It outlines the steps involved in placing the stimulating and recording electrodes on the hippocampal slice and measuring the field excitatory postsynaptic potential (fEPSP) to assess synaptic response strength.

Stereotactic Injection of MicroRNA-expressing Lentiviruses to the Mouse Hippocampus CA1 Region and Assessment of the Behavioral Outcome

MicroRNAs have significant roles in brain structure and function. Here we describe a method to enforce hippocampal miRNA over-expression using stereotactic injection of an engineered miRNA-expressing lentivirus. This approach can serve as a relatively rapid way to assess the in vivo effects of over-expressed miRNAs in specific brain regions.

Generating Local Cornu Ammonis 1 (CA1) Gamma Oscillations Using Tetanic Stimulations in a Hippocampal Brain Slice

IR Frequency Region: Fingerprint Region

2024

IR spectra are divided into two main regions: the diagnostic region and the fingerprint region. The diagnostic region of the spectrum lies above 1500 cm−1. The absorptions resulting from single-bond vibrations of the N–H, C–H, and O–H stretch at higher wavenumbers and appear on the left side of the spectrum. The stretching absorptions of the C≡C and C≡N occur between 2100–2300 cm−1. In contrast, those arising from stretching absorptions of the C=O, C=N, and C=C occur between 1600–1850 cm−1. The...
