Inferior Parietal Lobe

The inferior parietal lobe (IPL) is a multimodal association region of the cerebral cortex that combines sensory information to support perception, attention, language, and goal-directed behavior. It receives and integrates visual, auditory, and somatosensory signals, helping transform external stimuli and body-state information into spatial representations, action plans, and meaning; its activity also interacts with distributed attention and language networks. In neuroscience, the IPL is studied with neuroimaging, electrophysiology, and lesion analysis to examine functions such as tool use, numerical processing, empathy, and self-other representation. Understanding this region clarifies how complex cognition emerges and how parietal damage can produce selective cognitive and behavioral deficits.

Lateral Canthotomy and Inferior Cantholysis

Source: James W Bonz, MD, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Lateral canthotomy is a potentially eyesight-saving procedure when performed emergently for an orbital compartment syndrome. An orbital compartment syndrome results from a buildup of pressure behind the eye; as pressure mounts, both the optic nerve and its vascular supply are compressed, rapidly leading to nerve damage and blindness if the pressure is not quickly relieved. The medial and lateral...

The present work provides a comprehensive set of guidelines for manually tracing the medial temporal lobe (MTL) structures. This protocol can be applied to research involving structural and/or combined structural-functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) investigations of the MTL, in both healthy and clinical groups.

The cerebral cortex, a critical structure of the brain, is intricately divided into two hemispheres, each consisting of four distinct lobes: occipital, temporal, frontal, and parietal. These lobes function cooperatively to regulate various cognitive and sensory functions, forming the basis of our complex neural capabilities. Frontal lobe The frontal lobes, located behind the forehead, are the command center of our brain, controlling personality, intelligence, and voluntary muscle movements.
