Microscopy Stage

A microscopy stage is the stable platform that holds and positions a specimen beneath an objective, making it essential for consistent image acquisition in neuroscience and other fields. Manual or motorized stages move slides, culture dishes, or tissue chambers along the X and Y axes and, in some systems, the Z axis, enabling precise field selection, focal adjustment, and repeated imaging while minimizing drift. In neuroscience, stages support imaging of cultured neurons, brain slices, and living preparations, allowing researchers to track cellular structure, neural activity, and changes over time. Their positional accuracy and mechanical stability improve reproducibility and enable automated imaging workflows, including mapping regions of interest and collecting time-lapse data.

Stages of Sleep

2024

Sleep progresses through distinct stages, each characterized by specific brain wave patterns and physiological responses ranging from wakefulness to stages of non-rapid eye movement, known as non-REM, to rapid eye movement, referred to as REM. Understanding these stages helps in recognizing how sleep supports various bodily and cognitive functions. Before sleep begins, in wakefulness, the brain exhibits primarily beta waves, which are high in frequency and low in amplitude, indicating alertness...

Stages of General Anesthesia

2024

Various sedation levels offer significant advantages in facilitating procedural interventions for patients undergoing medical or invasive surgical procedures. These levels span from anxiolysis to general anesthesia, providing a spectrum of sedative effects to cater to specific patient needs. Anxiolysis reduces anxiety and is achieved through minimal sedation, enabling patients to remain awake and responsive while feeling more at ease during the procedure. This level can benefit minor...

Use of Time-Lapse Microscopy and Stage-Specific Nuclear Depletion of Proteins to Study Meiosis in S. cerevisiae

2022

Time-lapse microscopy is a valuable tool for studying meiosis in budding yeast. This protocol describes a method that combines cell-cycle synchronization, time-lapse microscopy, and conditional depletion of a target protein to demonstrate how to study the function of a specific protein during meiotic chromosome segregation.
